Robert Lee Browning, Sr., age 76, of Union Point, Georgia died Thursday, June 17, 2010 at the Atlanta Medical Center. Born in Stuckey, GA on December 10, 1933, he was the son of the late Ernest Lee Browning, Sr. and Reubena Barlow Browning. He attended elementary school in Augusta and high school in Savannah receiving his GED. On October 28, 1956 he married the former Barbara Merlene Jones of Union Point. For four years he served in the Georgia National Guard. In 1956 he joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Thailand working in maintenance and retiring in 1976. He retired to Thomson and worked as a security guard. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Orlando, Florida and a member of the VFW in McDuffie County.
In addition to his wife, Barbara Merlene Jones Browning of Union Point, he is survived by a daughter, Reubena "Ruby" Lynn Ashley and husband Dale of Thomson, GA; two sons, Robert Lee Browning, Jr. of Union Point, GA and Walter Cranston Browning of Union Point, GA; a sister, Betty Blocker of Savannah, GA; two brothers, Joe Browning and wife Sandra of Savannah, GA and Ernest Browning Jr. of Garden City, GA; grandchildren, Justin Lee Browning and wife Rachel of Muncie, IN, Eric Browning and wife Tessie of Harlem, GA, Rachel Browning of Boneville, GA, Edward Browning of Union Point, GA, Clinton N. Kersey of Kansas and Melissa I. Kersey of Dearing, GA; great grandchildren, Kingston Browning, Hayden Browning, Wesley Norris, Blayne Virgil and Kaitlyn Browning; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Graveside Services will be held on Sunday, June 20, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. at the Powelton Cemetery, Highway 22, Powelton, GA 31087 with Rev. Derek Smith and Rev. Mark Yearwood officiating and nephews serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday night at Callaway Funeral Home. Callaway Funeral Home, 208 N.
