Raymond Thurston Askew

Raymond Thurston Askew, age 64, of Greensboro, Georgia, died Thursday, January 24, 2008. He was born on July 31, 1943 to the late Thurston Starr Askew and Carles Irene Davis Askew. Raymond attended Meadowcrest School through fifth grade and then graduated from Greensboro High School in 1961. For a couple of years after high school he worked for Georgia Kraft and later became a substation construction foreman for Georgia Power in 1965 and retired in 2007. He was a member of the Elk''s Club, Jaycees and a former volunteer fireman for the city of Greensboro. He was a member at Walker United Methodist Church. Fishing, camping and traveling were his favorite pastimes.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carole Brook Askew, on January 17, 2006. He is survived by a daughter, Donna Askew Moon and husband Tommy of Greensboro, GA; a son, Ben Askew and wife Debbie of Union Point, GA; fiance'', June Huff of Madison, GA; three brothers, Bill Askew and wife JoAnn of Bishop, GA; Allen Askew and wife Sandra of White Plains, GA and Horace Askew and wife Ann of Greensboro, GA; two granddaughters, Brook Moon and Ellie Askew; mother-in-law, Frances Gunn of Union Point, GA; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, January 27, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Walker United Methodist Church with Rev. Jimmy A. Long, Rev. Dwight Webster and Rev. John Pike officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Wayne Hammock, Tommy Towler, Roger Dayton, Bill Campbell, Terry Mabry, Blake Batchelor, Jim Bauch and A. E. Axelberg. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Gene Askew, Luke Askew, Taylor Brook, Drew Mabry, Luke Mabry and Bill Byce. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday night at the funeral home.
