Poley Lon Brock, age 98, of Greensboro, GA, died Saturday, August 25, 2007 at Athens Regional Medical Center. He was born August 14, 1909 in Murray County, GA to the late George Burton Brock and Lula Loudermilk Brock. While living in Clarke County he went to mechanic''s school. During World War II he travelled from Memphis, TN to Mobile, AL working on bombers. Then he returned to Athens working at Pittman''s Garage as an auto mechanic and later ran a mechanic shop in Woodville. After he married Polly Coker, they moved to Stone Mountain where he worked for Stone Mountain Chevrolet. They later moved back to Greene County and he ran the Union 76 in Union Point and the Taylor Brothers Store toward Woodville. After retiring he piddled with lawnmowers at his shop at home. Mr. Brock was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Union Point.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Polly Coker Brock and his sisters, Nell Ellis, Gaynell Maxey, Depsey Pedrick and Jennie Hensley. Survivors include a sister, Marjorie Moore of Greensboro, GA; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Wesley Chapel Wesleyan Church in Greensboro. Interment will follow at Bethesda Baptist Church Cemetery in Union Point. Serving as pallbearers are John Moore, Craig Wooster, Dal Cronic, Wade Hensley, Dwane Hensley and Jeff Steorts.
