Peter Van Dyke Wilde
Peter Van Dyke Wilde of Lake Oconee in Greensboro, GA, died on Friday, March 28, 2014 at the age of 78. Born in Endicott, New York on August 11, 1935, he was the son of the late John David Wilde and Ella Myers Wilde. Peter graduated from Lehigh University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering and from George Washington University where he earned a Doctorate Degree in Law. On October 6, 1956 Peter married the former Christina Crawshaw in St. Clair, Pennsylvania. Peter’s career as General Attorney with AT&T Bell Labs/Lucent took him from Bernardsville, NJ, to Bethlehem, PA, to Flemington, NJ and then eventually to retirement in Williamsburg, VA and finally Greensboro, GA on Lake Oconee. One of his greatest achievements was when he wrote the patent for an invention that won two scientists a Nobel Prize in Physics. He enjoyed architecture and designing his own homes. Peter was a member of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and the Raleigh Tavern Society. Peter was a great brother, husband, father, grandfather and best friend who will truly be missed.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Christina Crawshaw Wilde of Greensboro, GA; children, Robin Wilde Lauchnor and husband Richard Lauchnor of Madison, NJ, Chris Wilde and wife Stacy Powell Wilde of Madison, NJ, Eric Wilde and wife Dawn Balogh Wilde of Raritan, NJ and Mark Wilde and wife Caroline McGarity Wilde of Smyrna, GA; grandchildren, Brandon and Tanner Lauchnor, Nicholas, Hallie and Noah Wilde, Lee and Anna Wilde and London Wilde; brother, John (Jack) Wilde; and many other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Grace Church, 4 Madison Avenue, Madison, NJ 07940. The family has requested that memorials be made to American Boychoir School, 75 Mapleton Road, Princeton, NJ 08540 or Camp Southern Ground, 101 Gardner Park, Peachtree City, GA 30269.
