Perry Leon Underwood, age 80, of Stone Mountain, GA died Thursday, December 6, 2007 at Athens Regional Medical Center. Born on June 2, 1927 in Polk County, NC he was the son of the late John Leaster Underwood and Ilene Newman Underwood. He grew up and attended school in Polk County, NC. During World War II he served his country in the United States Army and served two tours in Korea. He retired after twenty years in the Army and went to work at Fort Gillem in Atlanta for the Civil Service retiring again in 1995 after twenty years. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Local Chapter of the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Donaldson Underwood. He is survived by Russell Hiter Jr. and Deborah Hiter Dawson; one sister, three brothers, several nieces and nephews; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Snellville City Cemetery with Rev. Edward A. Swehla officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Ken Meeks, Stan Smith, Russ Hiter, Russell Hiter, Brent Fowlkes and Rex Dauler. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
