Peggy A. Norrell Gardner, age 74, of Greensboro, Georgia, died Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle, GA. Peggy was born December 27, 1937, in Beaumont, Texas to the late Laird Orvis Norrell and Lyda Allene Harrison Norrell. She graduated from Jones County High School and Junior College. She earned an Associate Degree of Arts from Gulf Coast Community College and a Bachelor of Science at West Florida University. She went on to earn a Masters of Education at the University of South Alabama, where she was a member of Phi Kappa Phi. She taught at Rutherford High School in Panama City, Florida, Mary Montgomery High School in Mobile, Alabama and was Director of Career Placement at Clayton State College in Morrow, GA, where she retired. After retirement she moved to Union Point and most recently lived at Willow Run Retirement Home in Greensboro. Peggy was a member of Grace Fellowship Church of Greensboro.
She is survived by a daughter, Lilli G. Thomas and husband Bill of Greensboro, GA; a son Max Gardner, Jr. and wife Judy of Alpharetta, GA; a sister, Cindy Lancaster and husband James of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Stuart Thomas and wife Casey, Susan Satterfield and husband John, Jacob Thomas and Carri McElhenney, Emily Gardner and Abigail Gardner; great grandchildren, Evan and Sidney Satterfield, India Thomas and Braxton Thomas; a number of other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by husband Max Gardner and aunts Bessie Harrison Bishop and Flossie Harrison Stallworth.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 16, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Rick Hermann and Dr. Jimmy Long officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until time for the service at McCommons Funeral Home in the historic Hall-Thomas House. Interment will follow at Greenview Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642. Serving as pallbearers are Stuart Thomas, Jacob Thomas, John Satterfield and Ken Smith.
