Paul Boland, age 78, of Eatonton, Georgia, died on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle, Georgia. Mr. Boland was a native of Manchester, NH born to the late Edward Boland and Rose Boland. He graduated from Georgia Tech with a Doctorate Degree in both Mathematics and Chemical Engineering and was a member of Sigma Xi Society, Pi Mu Epsilon Fraternity, Tau Beta Pi and Phi Kappa Phi. He married his wife Angie in 1953. He served his country in the United States Army as a medic during the Korean War. From 1958 until 1968 he taught mathematics and worked in the High Temperature Materials Division of the Engineering Experiment Station at the Georgia Institute of Technology where he was instrumental in the development of the ceramic heat shields used as tiles on the NASA Space Shuttles today. An early pioneer in the computer industry, he later started his own successful business, Dedicated Marketing International, and retired to Eatonton where he has lived for the past sixteen years. He was an avid sportsman, and enjoyed volunteering his time to both youth league and high school baseball teams; he enjoyed his family, friends, golf and travel. He was a member of Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church of Greensboro.
Paul is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years Angie; daughter Laura Matta; sons Joseph Boland; Tom Boland; Matt Boland; and Jason Boland; brother Richard Boland; sixteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and many relatives and close friends.
Memorial Services will be held Thursday, June 3, 2010, at 3:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Abbey Hospice, 215 Azalea Court, Social Circle, GA 30025. The family will receive friends after the service at the Historic Hall-Thomas House next to the funeral home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
