Odelle Marlowe Mize
Odelle Marlowe Mize of Greensboro, Georgia passed away suddenly, Monday, January 6, 2014 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital at the age of 95. An 80-year resident of Greene County, Odelle was born in Lexington, GA on April 3, 1918 to the late Megs Marlowe and Jessie Reid Marlowe. She attended Chase Elementary School in Athens, GA and moved to Union Point when she was fifteen. Over the years, she worked for Morgan Sportswear and Mary Leila Cotton Mill, which later became Wellington Puritan Mills. While working at the mill, she was a seamstress and a shipping clerk working well into her eighties. Odelle was the oldest living member of Shiloh Baptist Church. She love to stay busy and enjoyed quilting and sewing.
In addition to her husband, Rollin Goodman Mize, she was preceded in death by a son, Rollin Arthur Mize, grandson, Richard “Ricky” Merritt, a son-in-law, Bobby Merritt; and three sisters, Ruth Marlowe, Myrtle Hubbard and Louise Hardigree. Odelle is survived by a son, Euel Mize of Greensboro, GA; two daughters, Joann Vandiver and husband Louie of Greensboro, GA and Lois Merritt of Stockbridge, GA; daughter-in-law, Patricia Mize of Greensboro, GA; grandchildren, Kim Mize, Allison Booth (Darryl), Angie Kitchens (Kelly), Thomas Hattaway, LuAnn Thornton, Jolene Fleeman (Byron), John Vandiver, Allan Vandiver, Linda Silvey, Ronnie Merritt (Jana), Donnie Merritt (Jerri), Donald Boivin, Robert Boivin (Andy), Richard Boivin, Stacey Strickland (Kevin) and Tracey Bashore (Doug); great grand children, Kyle Burke, Chase Bryans, Ansley Booth, Kara Kitchens, Kaci Brown, Kelly Brent Kitchens, Kati Kithens, Amanda Hattaway, Chelsea Hattaway, Justin Hattaway, Cole Thornton, Hayden Fleeman, Corey Vandiver, Emily Garcia, Preston Reynolds, Seth Reynolds, Megan Silvey, John Boivin, Jenny Boivin, Taylor Boivin, Blake Boivin (Jessica), Ashley Boivin Channell (Josh), Richard Boivin, Jackson Strickland, Collin Strickland, Austin Brown, Lane Brown, Dustin Bashore and Brandi Bashore; and great great grandchildren, Jansen Burke, Kaydence Brown, Cohen Lowery, Aiden Yearwood, Gabriella Boivin, Abbie Channell and Aleigha Channell; many other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Norman Waldrip officiating. Interment will follow in the Greensboro City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642. Serving as pallbearers are: John Vandiver, Allan Vandiver, Corey Vandiver, Thomas Hattaway, Dennis Mize and Millard Mize.
