Nelson Walter Kennerson

Nelson Walter Kennerson, age 81, of Greensboro, GA died Sunday, October 23, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospice House in Watkinsville, GA.  Born on February 3, 1935 in Montville, CT, he was the oldest of five children of the late Walter Herbert Kennerson and Lucy Mahalia Wilcox Kennerson.  After graduating from high school in Danielson, CT, he entered into the United States Army where he became a medic and was stationed in Verona, Italy.  He proudly served his country for three years.  Nelson married the former Sandra Lou De Silvia on July 1, 1961.  After his discharge from the Army, he worked for Norwich State Hospital in Connecticut as the lead mental health worker and retired in 1990 at the age of 55.  Soon afterwards he moved to Naples, FL where he lived for twenty years and in 2013 made his permanent home in Greensboro to live close to his daughter and her son.  He was a member of St. Stephen’s Anglican Catholic Church in Athens, GA.  He was also a member of the Mayflower Society, Sons of the American Revolution and Collier County Genealogy Association of Florida.  He was an avid cook and was well known for his apple pies and chocolate chip cookies.  He also loved to travel including summers on Flathead Lake in Montana and several trips to England where he was able to see the Queen Mother on her birthday.

In addition to his wife of fifty-five years, Sandra Lou Kennerson of Greensboro, GA, he is survived by two children, Heather Leigh Kennerson of Greensboro, GA and Paige Moira Montague (Paul) of Montpelier, VT; three grandchildren, Emily Montague, Laura Montague and Philip Knowles; siblings, Lillian Ruth Kennerson Babcock (William), Jennie Kennerson Dazy and Arlene Kennerson Putnam (John); and a number of other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by a brother Charles Herbert Kennerson.
