Neilan LaMarr Burns

Neilan LaMarr Burns, age 82, of Stone Mountain, GA, died Thursday, March 25, 2010 at Odyssey Hospice in Decatur, GA. Born in Fulton County on April 3, 1927, he was the son of the late Walter Francis Burns and Mamie Harmon Burns. He graduated from Tech High School and attended Georgia State University. After college he trained for the Merchant Marines in St. Petersburg, FL. In January of 1953, he married the former Wilma Stanley. He began working for the United States Government as Senior Examiner for the Office of Planning and Management and retired after thirty-two years of service. Neilan was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed gardening, woodworking, collecting coins, stamps and watching almost any sport.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Wilma Stanley Burns of Stone Mountain, GA; two sons, Robert Burns of Atlanta, GA and Raymon Burns and wife Jeanette of Grayson, GA; a brother, Walter F. Burns; three grandchildren, Jonathan Burns, Matthew Burns and Thomas Burns; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Loudermilk.

Graveside Services will be held on Monday, March 29, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at the Walker Church Cemetery, 2730 Walker Church Road, Greensboro, GA with Rev. Tom Elliot officiating.
