Nancy Ann Russ Newbern

Nancy Ann Russ Newbern, age 79, of Atlanta, GA, died Monday, March 2, 2015 at Fountainview Center in Atlanta, GA. Born in Miami, FL on August 12, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Fred Duncan Russ and Thelma Lucille Miller Russ. Her early years were spent in Miami, where Nancy was a member of the first graduating class of Coral Gables High School, and was highly regarded for her talents playing piano. Her adult years took her to Nashville, back to Miami and then to Orlando, where she enjoyed playing tennis and other social activities.  Her career as an executive secretary with the Wyatt Company then moved her to Atlanta in 1980, where she later retired in 2000.  While family was the focal point of her life, Nancy also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, various card games, walking and tennis.   Above all, Nancy was a dedicated, kind and giving friend, wife and mother.  Her influence and memory will live on through her family.

Nancy is survived by two sons, Russell Sklenka and wife Carla of Atlanta, GA and Brian Shively of Atlanta, GA; granddaughters, Julianne and Sara; a niece, Tracy Wagner of Nashville, TN, as well as a number of other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held Friday, March 6, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Madison Memorial Cemetery, Central Avenue, Madison, GA 30650 with Rev. Jim Ross officiating, where she will be laid to rest alongside her her loving sister, Judith Lucille Young.
