Nancy Ada (Oliver) McIlwaine
Nancy Ada (Oliver) McIlwaine passed away suddenly of cardiac arrest on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital. She was 71. Nancy was born July 5, 1947 in Toronto, Canada. She was the daughter and one of three children born to the late James and Doris Oliver. She grew up and graduated from high school and college in Toronto receiving a degree in teaching. She first worked as an elementary school teacher before going to work with her two brothers at Symak Sales, where they sold sewing notions. On March 11, 1978 she married William Stewart McIlwaine. After moving to Atlanta, GA from Canada, she became a Teachers Assistant in the Marietta public school system and later volunteered at Greensboro Elementary and Union Point Steam Academy. In 1997 Bill & Nancy purchased land at Reynolds Lake Oconee and in 2010 built their retirement home and became permanent residents. After moving to Greene County they continued to lead TRI-KIDS, INC. a program they developed to expose kids to a sport that requires commitment, dedication and discipline while stressing the importance of training as a team and yet competing as an individual and how to apply that concept in their daily lives. She also enjoyed reading, travelling, golfing, going to workout classes, and watching hockey games in the basement with Bill.
In addition to her husband of forty years, Bill McIlwaine of Greensboro, GA, she is survived by two brothers, Charles Herbert Oliver of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and David James Oliver (and his wife, Delma) of Stouffville, Ontario, Canada. Nancy was also blessed with nieces and nephews, Katy, Jane, Jennifer, Jean, Scott, Jim, Philip, Russell and Laura; along with many friends and other family members.
A Celebration of Nancy's Life will be held Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at McCommons, 109 W. Broad Street, Greensboro, GA 30642. The family requests that any memorials be made to TRI-KIDS, INC, and sent to 1011 Rock Landing, Greensboro, GA 30642. The funds will be used to provide college scholarships for Tri-Kids in Greene County.
