Nancy Sylvia Ellison Bufford

Nancy Sylvia Ellison Bufford of Greensboro, Georgia passed away Thursday, October 20, 2016 at the age of 88.  Nancy was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 30, 1928 to the late Leonard Ellison and Sylvia Running Ellison.  After graduating high school in 1945 and Luther College in 1949, Nancy began her teaching career.  She married Harry Eugene Bufford, Sr. on July 11, 1952.  Because of her husband’s military career, she was fortunate enough to teach all over the United States: Minnesota, Michigan, California, Texas, Indiana, North Carolina, Ohio and Georgia.  She also taught in Guam.  Harry’s military career took them to Italy so after twenty years of teaching, she retired in 1979.  After moving back to Greensboro from Hilton Head South Carolina, Nancy was an active member of the Greensboro community and with the Walker United Methodist Church.  She served as a Pink Lady Volunteer while living at Hilton Head and also in Greensboro.  She was also a member of the National Teachers Association and enjoyed needlepoint.

Nancy is survived by her husband of sixty-four years, Harry Eugene Bufford, Sr. of Greensboro, GA; daughter, Brenda Stainback (Frank); sons, Joel Bufford (Deborah), Harry Bufford, Jr. and Randy Bufford (Susan); brother, Joel Ellison (June) of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Ellison.
 
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Walker United Methodist Church, 2730 Walker Church Road, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. John Pike officiating. Serving as honorary pallbearers are: James Stainback, Thomas Stainback, Cory Martinet, Clinton Bufford, David Bufford and Jonathan Bufford.  The family requests that any memorials be made in memory of Nancy Bufford to Walker United Methodist Church, 2730 Walker Church Road, Greensboro, GA 30642.
