Myra Stewart Obituary

Myra Elizabeth Smith Stewart, 71, of White Plains, GA., died Saturday, April 21, 2007 at St. Mary''s Hospital in Athens. Born in Hancock County on August 2, 1935, she was the daughter of the late John Monroe Smith and Lula Clifton Chapman Smith. Myra spent her childhood in Hancock County where she graduated from Sparta High School in 1952. She married Wilburn T. Stewart on December 13, 1953. For twenty-five years, she worked for The Farmers Bank. Mrs. Stewart was a member of White Plains Baptist Church where she was past president of the WMU and treasurer of the Jessie C. Cottrell Sunday School Class.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-three years, Wilburn Talmadge Stewart of White Plains, GA; two daughters, Gwen S. Whittaker and husband Richard of Glennville, GA and Lynn S. Copelan and husband Richard of Birmingham, AL; a sister, Virginia Webster and husband Gene of Stuart, FL; five grandchildren, Ashley Godbee, Meredith Waters, Adam Whittaker, Kate Copelan and Michael Copelan; four great grandchildren, Jackson Godbee, Presley Godbee, Ava Waters and Charlie Waters; and a number of other relatives. She was preceded in death by her siblings, John Smith, Ralph Smith, Betty Simmons, Lucy Lively and Clifton "Bo" Smith.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at the White Plains Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Lee and Rev. Dr. Norman Waldrip officiating. Interment will follow in the White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Michael Copelan, Adam Whittaker, Michael Godbee, Andy Waters, Kenny Stewart and John Smith. Honorary pallbearers are the deacons of White Plains Baptist Church: Ike Moore, David Price, Douglas Price, Harry Blanchard, John Eley, Bob Beeland and Russell Stewart. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday night at the funeral home. Any memorials may be made to the White Plains Baptist Church, P. O. Box 38, White Plains, GA 30678.
