Myra Shelnutt O’Rear, 90, of White Plains died Thursday, July 18, 2002. Born December 30, 1911, Miss Myra was the daughter of the late Lee and Ella Parker Shelnutt of Walton County, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband James Larry O’Rear in 1955. Miss Myra was the oldest living member of the White Plains Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, was a member of the Jessie C. Cottrell Sunday School Class, and the Women’s Missionary Society. She was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, and homemaker.
She is survived by her only daughter and son-in-law, Ella Claire and Harry Blanchard of White Plains, GA; grandson, James and Debbie Blanchard of Ozark, AL; and granddaughter, Nancy and Mac Wright of Dalton, GA. Mrs. O’Rear also leaves two great grandchildren, Jamie Blanchard of Brunswick, GA and Abby Blanchard of Auburn University. Other survivors include three half sisters, Sara Owens, Melba Hall, and Margie Johnson all of Atlanta, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 20, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the White Plains Baptist Church with Dr. Norman R. Waldrip officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Active Pallbearers are Ike Moore, David Price, Jamie Eley, Richard Dunagan Jr., Andy Moore, and William Coleman. Honorary Pallbearers are Douglas Price, Wilburn Stewart, Russell Stewart, Johnny Eley, Bob Beeland, Bobby Rocker, Milton Stewart, and Dr. William H. Rhodes Jr. The family will receive friends at McCommons Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m Friday night. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorials to the White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1020 Main Street, White Plains, GA 30678. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
