Minnie Alice Callaway "Polly" Powell, age 88, of Union Point, GA died Wednesday January 26, 2011 at Eatonton Health & Rehabilitation Center. A lifelong resident of Greene County, Polly was born in Penfield on September 8, 1922 to the late Homer C. Callaway and Lou Emma Armour Callaway. She grew up and attended school in Penfield. She worked for Thomas Textile in Union Point, GA and also Chipman Union. Polly was a member of the Union Point Worship Center and enjoyed talking on the phone, caring for others and growing flowers.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Nolan C. Leach and Claude L. Powell; son-in-law, Tommy Rhodes; and siblings Iona Ellison, Mary Strozier, William Callaway and Homer D. Callaway. She is survived by daughters, Faye Nation and husband Roy of Eatonton, GA and Roberta Rhodes of Union Point, GA; a brother, James Callaway and wife Allene of Union Point, GA; grandchildren, Wanda McCannon of Union Point, GA, Teresa Gentry and husband Donald of Greensboro, GA, Jackie Land and husband Lance of Union Point, GA, Marie Burden and husband Tim of Union Point, GA, Lee Lindsey and wife Tonya of Greensboro, GA and Scott Lindsey and wife Lexie of Eatonton, GA; great grandchildren, Joey McCannon, Robby McCannon, Amy Watkins, Wendy Smith, Rocky Land, Cassie Burden, Kelly Burden, Carrie Lindsey, Austin Lindsey and Laci Sorrow; great great grandchildren, Elli Land, R. J. McCannon, Jacob Lindsey and Elijah Lindsey; and many other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held Friday January 28, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the McCommons Chapel in Greensboro with Rev. Dennis Mitchell officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until time for the service at McCommons Funeral Home. The family requests that any memorials be made to the Union Point Worship Center, 208 Lamb Avenue, Union Point, GA 30669. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
