Milton Stewart Obituary

Milton Lewis Stewart, age 80, of White Plains, Georgia, died Friday, July 29, 2005 at St. Mary''s Hospital in Athens, GA. Born in Taliaferro County on September 23, 1924 he was the son of the late James Willie Stewart and Bessie Jones Stewart. He attended school in Crawfordville and Siloam and graduated from Greensboro High School. During World War II he served in the United States Army and received The Purple Heart and an Honorable Discharge on November 12, 1945. For forty five years he was the owner and operator of a dairy business in White Plains. For over fifty years he was a member of White Plains Baptist Church where he served on the House and Grounds Committee and for twenty five years was Chairman of the Cemetery Committee. He was also a director for the Greene County Farm Bureau and served on the FSA Committee for nine years.

Mr. Stewart is survived by his wife, Dorothy M. Stewart, of White Plains, GA; a daughter, Brenda S. Stone and husband Charles of Milledgeville, GA; two sons, Richard Stewart of White Plains, GA and Charles Stewart of White Plains, GA; a sister, Anna Lois Pickering and husband Hardy of Atlanta, GA; a brother, Russell Stewart and wife Martha of White Plains, GA; four grandchildren, Chuck Stone of Atlanta, GA, Elizabeth Stone of Milledgeville, GA, Paige Deaver and husband Adam of Macon, GA and Kim Daniel and husband Lee of Albany, GA; five great grandchildren, Abigail Daniel, Reid Daniel, Wyatt Daniel, Carrie Deaver and Evans Deaver; and a host of other friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn S. Thompson; and two brothers, Clarence E. Stewart and Harry W. Stewart.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, July 31, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. at White Plains Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Norman Waldrip and Rev. Curtis Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Siloam Cemetery with military honors. Serving as pallbearers are Dwight Hamner, Jamie Stewart, Barney Vermillin, Ken Cawthon, Ken Stewart, Danny Sanders, Bert Pickering, Jimmy Pickering and Gary Pickering. Honorary pallbearers are White Plains Baptist Church Mens Sunday School Class, Ike Moore, David Price, Johnny Eley, Harry Blanchard, Wallace Pate, Douglas Price, Jamie Eley, Jimmy Smallwood, Larry Eley, Wilburn Stewart, Tom Yearwood, Bob Beeland, Ray Copelan, Loren Leach, William Coleman and Melvin Duvall.
