Mildred Mahoney Stiffler of Roswell, Georgia, died October 7, 2018 at Wellstar Community Hospice, Tranquility at Kennesaw Mountain in Marietta, Georgia. She was 92. Mildred was born August 9, 1926, in Long Beach, New York to the late James and Mary Daly Mahoney. Mildred graduated from Oneonta State Teachers College of New York with a degree in education. She taught in Schenectady, New York. On June 7, 1952, Mildred married George Joseph Stiffler and they settled in Nutley, New Jersey. The family moved to Bedford, Virginia, in 1974 to enjoy the slower pace of country life. George and Mildred moved to Greensboro, Georgia, in 1990. Mildred moved to St. George Village in Roswell in 2013.
Mildred was passionate about her family and her Roman Catholic faith. She spent countless hours volunteering for her church and the Greensboro Public Library. She was dearly loved by George Joseph, her husband of fifty-seven years, and her four children: George William Stiffler of Arlington, Virginia; Therese Barnes (Gary) of Atlanta, Georgia; Tim Stiffler (Annabelle) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and Valerie Suessmith (Hank) of McDonough, Georgia, and her grandchildren: Whitney, Matthew (Amanda), Charlie (Allie), Sam, Jack, and Banning, all of whom will miss her dearly. She was predeceased by her husband, George Joseph Stiffler, and her siblings, Eva Mahoney, James Mahoney, and Father John Mahoney. Her death is also mourned by the many friends she touched in Nutley, New Jersey, Bedford, Virginia, Greensboro, Georgia, and St. George Village, Roswell, Georgia.
A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at 11:00 A.M. at Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church, 6341 Lake Oconee Parkway, Greensboro, Georgia 30642 with Father Michael Silloway officiating. Interment will be Thursday, October 11, at 2:00 P.M. at the Georgia National Cemetery, 2025 Mount Carmel Church Lane, Canton, Georgia 30114 where she will join her husband, George, who was buried with military honors in 2010. Serving as pallbearers will be George Stiffler, Tim Stiffler, Matthew Barnes, Charlie Suessmith, Jack Stiffler, and Sam Suessmith.
