Mildred Harrison Obituary

Mildred Ann Smith Harrison, age 96, of Greensboro, GA, formerly of Greenville, SC, died Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at Greene Point Health Care Center in Union Point. She was born in Greenville County, South Carolina on January 30, 1911 to the late Arthur Jasper Smith and Mamie Avis Carnell. She graduated from Simpsonville South Carolina High School and worked for a department store in Columbia, SC for a few years. On January 27, 1934 she married Reginald Augustus Harrison in Washington, DC while he was working in the Navy shipyard. In 1946, after World War II, they moved back to Columbia, South Carolina where Mildred was a homemaker raising their sons and worked for Belk''s Department Store as a buyer and department head. Then in 1986 after living in Columbia for forty years, they moved to Greenville, SC. They were active members of Pelham Road Baptist Church in Greenville. After her husband''s death she moved to Willow Run in Greensboro and since June 19, 2007 she had resided at Greene Point Health Care Center in Union Point. Her greatest love and source of joy was her family. She loved her husband of sixty-seven years, her sons and their families unconditionally with great intensity, loyalty and devotion.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Reginald Augustus Harrison in April of 200l and her siblings, Marie Brooks, J. C. Smith, George Smith and Bob Smith. She is survived by two sons, Don Harrison and wife Nancy of Greensboro, GA and Bob Harrison and wife Janet of Greensboro, GA; four grandchildren, Todd Harrison, Robyn Carrasquillo, Debbie Gettinger and Cathy Graves; and nine great-grandchildren, Zac Harrison, Michael Harrison, Briana Carrasquillo, Ben Carrasquillo, Blake Gettinger, Lauren Gettinger, Brandon Gettinger, Mitchell Graves and Amelia Graves.

Graveside Services will be held on Friday, October 19, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Greenview Cemetery with Rev. William Kitchen III officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Dave Graves, Zac Harrison and Michael Harrison. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until time for the service.
