Merrill Fowler Obituary

Merrill Gray Fowler of Crawfordville, GA, died Sunday, February 13, 2011 at the age of 79 at Heritage Healthcare of Wilkes in Washington, GA. Gray was born February 13, 1932 to the late William Thomas Fowler and Edna Flynt Nobles Fowler. He was a lifelong resident of Crawfordville and attended Alexander H. Stephens Institute. After forty-eight years of service, he retired from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources working at Alexander H. Stephens State Park and Historic Site in Crawfordville. He started his job there parttime, working two days here and three days there. He always enjoyed working with his hands and that is how he began maintenance work at the park and continued for forty-eight years. After retiring he worked on his grandmother''s house where he was living and visited with family and friends. His father was also employed at the park during the 1930''s and 1940''s.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Eunice Fowler Sharp, Carolyn Fowler Cline, Richard Fowler, Dewey Fowler, Hoke S. Fowler, Carl Nobles, Frank Nobles Jr. and Flynt Nobles. He is survived by a brother Thomas (Laverne) Fowler of Macon, GA; sisters-in-law, Pearl Arthur Fowler of Crawfordville, GA and Dorothy Chew Nobles of Houston, TX; nephews, Dicky (Janis) Fowler of Thomson, GA, Alan Gray Fowler of Thomson, GA, Benjamin Walker (Kristina) Fowler of Evans, GA, James Fowler of Orange Park, FL and Harry Nobles of Cypress, TX; nieces, Betty Fowler (Ronnie) Chatham of Royston, GA, Carolyn Fowler of Royston, GA, Pat Fowler of Royston, GA, Gail Nobles (Robert) West of Milledgeville, GA, Carlotta Nobles (Jimmy) Jones of Houston, TX and Carolyn Sharp Brantley of Snellville, GA; and several great nieces and great nephews.

Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Crawfordville Baptist Church Cemetery, 142 Memorial Drive, Crawfordville, with Rev. Dennis Garner officiating.
