Mayme DeLoach Obituary

Mayme Harris Jenkins DeLoach was born in Putnam County, GA on January 23, 1920 to Lewis Alexander Jenkins and Gussie Gorley Jenkins. The late Martha Jenkins Tucker was her sister. She was raised on a dairy farm and attended elementary and secondary schools in the county. She attended Georgia State College for Women and taught in Unadilla and Jackson, GA, before finishing her degree.

On June 5, 1942, she married the late Joseph B. DeLoach, Jr. and moved to the Rockville Community. Susie was born to the couple in 1945 and Joe in 1949. The family moved from Rockville to a dairy farm on Parks Road. Ms. DeLoach finished her B.S. degree in elementary education at GSCW in 1954. She taught in Buckhead, GA, and then at Putnam County Middle School until her retirement in 1977. She was a member of various teacher''s organizations, the Eastern Star, and a former member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary teacher''s society. A whole generation of Putnam County students have mixed memories of "Miss Mayme" as their seventh grade math and science teacher.

Following their retirement as dairymen, they moved back to Rockville and lived on Lake Sinclair until J.B.''s death in 1998. Ms. DeLoach moved to Oconee Springs Road in Eatonton and lived next door to Joe until her death. She was an active member of the Eatonton Presbyterian Church.

Ms. DeLoach is survived by her daughter, Susie D. G''Segner (wife of The Rev. Dr. Ford G''Segner), and son, Joe DeLoach, III (husband of Melody L. DeLoach). She has five grandchildren: Donna G. Alderman, Greenville, NC; Christie G. Sturm, Flowery Branch, GA; Jessica D. Weems, Athens, GA; Rebekah D. Coker, Eatonton, GA; and Joseph DeLoach, a student at Young Harris College; and one great grandson, Tyler Alderman.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, December 27, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at Eatonton Presbyterian Church with Rev. Mike Willard officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Eatonton. Serving as pallbearers are Joseph B. J. DeLoach, Lee Weems, Bryan Coker, Derek Alderman, Tim Sturm, Glenn Lindsey, Clark DeLoach Jr., and Jerry Baynes.
