Mattie Jo Bradford Vaughn, 76, of the Macedonia Community in Oglethorpe County, died Thursday, July 31, 2008 at St. Mary''s Hospital in Athens. Mattie Jo was born October 10, 1931 in Elbert County, GA to the late Robert Lewis Bradford and Anna Mae Dixon Bradford. She was a graduate of Elbert County School and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. While living in Union Point she taught Sunday School at the First Baptist Church. She was a full time wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family, enjoyed cooking, working with flowers and working in the garden. She also assisted her husband, Joe Vaughn, in his automobile repair shop where he teasingly called her the shop foreman.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Vaughn, of the Macedonia Community; a daughter, Beverly Vaughn Sines of the Macedonia Community; a son Brian Vaughn and wife Pam of the Macedonia Community; a sister, Edna Goodwin and husband Marco of Elberton, GA; a brother, Jimmy Bradford and wife Johnnie of Elberton, GA; sister-in-law, Nell Bradford of Elberton, GA; five grandchildren, Brad Vaughn, Justin Vaughn, Bonnie Wilkes, Stephen Sines and Bradley Sines; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicki Vaughn; brother, Mattox Bradford; and two grandchildren, Spencer Sines and Joey Wilkes.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. Joel Sorrow officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Union Point, GA. Serving as pallbearers are Kevin Nichols, Stuart Nichols, Lance Land, Randy Miller, Alan Fleeman and Jason Fleeman. Honorary pallbearers are Brad Vaughn, Justin Vaughn, Stephen Sines, David Speir and Bradley Sines. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the church.
