Mary Jim Allen Vandiver, age 73, of the Greshamville Community, died Wednesday, April 19, 2006. A lifelong resident of Greene County she was born March 15, 1933 to Josephine West Allen of Greensboro, GA and the late Lee Lucious Allen, Sr. Mary Jim graduated from Greensboro High School in 1950 and later graduated from Athens Business College. During her working career she worked at the original Richland Restaurant which was owned by her father, was a switchboard operator at Athens Banner Herald and was a secretary at the University of Georgia for the Legal Department. In the last few years she had loved going to church at the First Baptist Church of Greensboro and enjoyed fishing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hoyt Vandiver Jr. in 1991; and two sons, Donny Hoyt Vandiver in 1990 and Michael Keith Short in 1969. She is survived by her mother, Josephine West Allen of Greensboro, GA; two daughters, Joyce Vandiver Kennedy and husband John L. of Bogart, GA and Judith Rosalyn Warnick and husband Stanley of the Greshamville Community; a sister, Bobbie Lee Phelps and husband Darrel of Greensboro, GA; a brother, Lee "Dink" Allen Jr. of Greensboro, GA; seven grandchildren, Misty Perez, Casey Kennedy, Jake Scott Kennedy, Amanda Lee Redmond, Michael Clay Warnick, Gene Hoyt Vandiver and Reuben Garrett Vandiver; six great grandchildren, Christian Perez, Avery Perez, Kaitlyn Kennedy, Jennifer Rose Vandiver, Hailey Vandiver and Corey Vandiver; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 21, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Greensboro with Rev. Michael Hardy officiating. Interment will follow at the Old Salem Cemetery in Farmington. Serving as pallbearers are Jake Kennedy, Michael Clay Warnick, Gene Vandiver, Reuben Garrett Vandiver, Jason Paul Redmond and Frank Perez.
