Mary Bowman Self

Mary Louise Bowman Self, age 82, of Greensboro, GA, formerly of Sandy Springs, GA, died Sunday, June 20, 2010 at Boswell Parker Health and Rehab. A native of Marietta, GA she was born February 24, 1928 to the late Bernard Ulysses Bowman and Leila Maddox Bowman. She was a graduate of Fitzhugh Lee High School in 1944 and attended Georgia Baptist. She was a Ladies Teller at Fulton National Bank and started teaching kindergarten in 1962. For a number of years, she taught at Annie Houze Cook School at Sandy Springs Baptist Church. She was a secretary at Jack Kimzey Propane Gas Company and a receptionist for Dr. Jeff Morrison. She married James Wilborn "J.W." Self on May 14, 1950 and they had just recently celebrated their sixtieth anniversary. After their marriage, they lived in Sandy Springs on Dalrymple Road for 43 years. They moved from Sandy Springs to Greensboro in 1993. When health permitted, she was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Greensboro. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Confederacy and enjoyed antiquing with her husband. She will be missed greatly by all of her friends in the Greensboro Community.

She is survived by her husband, J.W. Self of Greensboro, GA; two daughters, Alice Self Campbell and husband Marion of Lake Jackson, TX and Nancy Self Morrison and Dr. Jeff of Spartanburg, SC; two sons, James W. Self Jr. and wife Carla of Sandy Springs, Ga and Peter M. Self and wife Donna of Cincinnati, OH; two brothers, Bernard Ulysses Bowman Jr. and wife Malvie of Columbus, OH and Robert Adams Bowman and wife Donnis of Buford, GA; thirteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 203 South Main Street, Greensboro, GA with Rev. Dr. Michael Hardy officiating. Interment will be at Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery, 201 Mount Vernon Road NW, Atlanta, GA 30328 at 2:00 p.m. Serving as pallbearers are Randall Self, Jason Abbott, Trevor Self, Ryan Self, Joe Morrison, Marion Campbell, Dr. Jeff Morrison. Serving as honorary pallbearers are, Joshua Morrison, Clayton Bell, Robert Ohmes, Hamps Sunday School Class and Fidelis Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday night at McCommons Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 203 S.
