Mary Dilger Powell
Mary Dilger Powell, age 67, died at her home in Greensboro, GA surrounded by her loved ones on Friday, March 18, 2016 after a battle with cancer. Born in Charleston, West Virginia, on May 8, 1948, Mary was the daughter of the late James and Faith Chapman Dilger. She was a 1985 graduate of Corpus Christi State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. On May 10, 1969 she married the love of her life Randall Lee Powell in Auburn, Alabama. Over the years Mary enjoyed working for several companies as a CPA where she was able to make some life-long friends. She most recently enjoyed being self-employed and doing accounting work for many clients she would also consider friends. Sixteen years ago she and her husband moved to Lake Oconee where they built a beautiful home that was often filled with love and laughter of family and friends. Mary always enjoyed taking care of her loved ones to include all her furry friends. She had a special way of making everyone feel welcome and part of the family. She always put others before herself and that is how she became everyone’s beloved MomMary.
Mary was loved dearly by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Faith Dilger and her husband, Randall Powell. She is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Calder and husband Joe of Dallas, Texas; a son, Jeff Powell and wife Alex of Atlanta, GA; a grandson, Jeffrey Dylan Powell of Fort Riley, Kansas; a sister, Gretchen Spella; two brothers, Greg Dilger and Tommy Dilger; and many loved nieces, nephews and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, March 25, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at McCommons Funeral Home Chapel, 109 W. Broad Street, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Hilda Stewart officiating. A celebration of her life will be held at the family’s home, 1021 Northwoods Pointe, Greensboro, Georgia 30642 following the service.
