Mary Smith Torbert Ferrell

Mary “Mae” Smith Torbert Ferrell, 84, of Greensboro, GA died Friday, February 20, 2004 at Boswell Parker Nursing Center. She was born in Greene County on May 11, 1919 to the late A. Marvin Smith and Prudence Venable Smith. She attended Union Point School. In the late 1920’s she worked at Union Manufacturing in Union Point and later worked for several other businesses in the community. She was a seamstress, a homemaker and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greensboro. The last of eleven children, she is survived by a daughter, Sue T. Leadingham of Smyrna, GA; a son, Gerald W. Torbert and wife Barbara of Greensboro, GA; six grandchildren, Susan L. Dixon and husband Anthony of Marietta, GA, Kenneth Leadingham and wife Pamela of Dallas, TX, David Torbert of Greensboro, GA, Kelly T. Hayes and husband Mike of Greensboro, GA, Tammy T. Acosta and husband Jose of White Plains, AL and Nikki Torbert Leach and husband Roger of Lakemont, GA; and seven great grandchildren, Mary Dixon, Trey Hayes, Davis Hayes, Hayden Leadingham, Hannah Leadingham, Elizabeth Manley and Jessica Manley. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Grover Cleveland Torbert Jr.; her second husband Emmett Ferrell; and a son, Grover Marvin “Ricky” Torbert. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 22, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Greensboro with Rev. Jimmy A. Long officiating. Interment will follow at Greenview Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Michael Smith, Mike Hayes, David Torbert, Anthony Dixon, Kenneth Leadingham and Roger Leach.
