Mary Elise Culbreath

Mary Elise Reese Culbreath, of Union Point, Georgia, died, Thursday, May 30, 2019 at her residence. She was born on January 5, 1923 in Norwood, GA to the late Jesse Otis “J.O.” Reese and Theola Duckworth Reese. Mary graduated from Warren County High School and received a Bachelor’s degree in education from Women’s College of Georgia in Milledgeville, Georgia.  She worked for the Greene County Board of Education and taught English at Union Point High School and Greene County High School for over 40 years.  She was also the librarian during that time.  Mary was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Union Point serving in various capacities and playing both the piano and organ for many years.  Fellowshipping and eating with family gave her much enjoyment.  She also enjoyed fishing and traveling with her husband John and loved to tend to her flower gardens, especially her roses.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Hiram Culbreath in February of 2011; and all of her siblings, Harvey Reese, Earl Reese, G. T. Reese, Pilcher Reese and Leon “Cotton” Reese, Reba Reese, Thelma Langham, Bertha Cheely, Kitty Newsome and Polly Woodruff.  She is survived by a number of beloved nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. 

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 1 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 206 Thornton Street, Union Point, GA 30669 with Rev. Alec Ward officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Rhodes Street, Union Point, GA 30669. Serving as pallbearers are Harry Culbreath, John Culbreath, Rabon Culbreath, Ben Mooney, Travis Reese, and Donald Reese. Don Reese, Jesse Reese, Terry Reese, Bunyan Langham and Rick Newsome will serve as honorary pallbearers. 
The family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service. The family requests that any memorials be made to The First Baptist Church in Union Point or the charity of your choice. 

 
For the last 8 years, she was provided around the clock care by 4 wonderful ladies, Ann Jones, Edna Yearwood, Paula Jones Wynn and LaSalle Farley.  During that time, all of them developed a very close friendship with her and were considered to be far more than just her caregivers.  Callaway Funeral Home, 208 N.
