Marvin Dowell Stewart, age 78, of Greensboro, Georgia, died Friday, July 22, 2011 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. A native of Greene County he was born July 11, 1933 to the late Robert Samuel Stewart, Sr. and Sallie Kite Stewart. He grew up in White Plains and graduated from Greensboro High School. On March 21, 1955 he married Carolyn Worthen of Union Point and soon after joined the United States Army, where he served his country for two years. After leaving service, they moved to Sparta where he worked for a furniture factory. Then he started doing watch repair with his brother, Robert Samuel Stewart, Jr. and taught himself how to work on watches. From Sparta he moved to Wadley, GA and along with his brother ran a Jewelry Store for a number of years. He returned to Greensboro and opened Greensboro Jewelry in the late sixties. Later he retired from Harbor Club as a security guard. He was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Union Point. He enjoyed fishing and spending as much time as possible with the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Worthen Stewart on June 3, 2008; a sister, Faye Donna Stewart Marcus and a brother Robert Samuel Stewart, Jr. He is survived by a daughter, Janet Mize and husband Gary of Greensboro, GA; a son, Doug Stewart and wife Jackie of Foley, AL; seven grandchildren, Lisa Lintz, Brian Stewart, Erica Mize, Robert Allen, Russ Mize, Jason Stewart and Dan Mize; great grandchildren, Krystal Mena, Jordan Mize, Haley Mize, Memphis Smith, Tyler Jordan, Bennett Stewart, Colin Stewart, Skyla Lintz, Jasmine Allen; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethesda Baptist Church, 1560 Bethesda Church Road, Union Point, GA 30669 with Rev. Bruce Lovin officiating. Interment services will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are grandchildren: Russ Mize, Dan Mize, Jason Stewart, Brian Stewart, Charlie Lintz and Tracy Jordan.
