Marvin Foster Obituary

Marvin C. “Buddy” Foster, affectionately known as Pop, of the Veazey Community, died Friday, March 11, 2011 at the age of 78 at the Georgia War Veterans Home in Augusta, GA. Buddy was born August 26, 1932 in Carroll County, Georgia to the late Walter Chester Foster and Mary Ethel Kilgore Foster. He graduated from Bowden High School and joined the United States Marines at the age of seventeen. On July 26, 1953 he married the former Carolyn Moon of the Veazey Community. His career in the Marines spanned twenty years as he was stationed in Korea, North Carolina and Vietnam. He moved back to Greene County in 1967 and retired from the military in 1968. He then worked for Bradley Pontiac Chevrolet, Roper Ford, John Smith Chevrolet and later retired from Reynolds Plantation after five years as a mechanic. He was a member of Walker United Methodist Church and a member of the VFW. In addition to his wife of fifty-seven years, Carolyn Moon Foster of the Veazey Community, he is survived by two daughters, Doris A. Toland and husband Gary of Dacula, GA and Elaine Standard and husband Haynes of the Veazey Community; three sons, Paul Foster of the Veazey Community, Joe Foster and wife Diane of Siloam, GA and Ray Foster and wife Jan of the Liberty Community; sister, Margaret Muse of Carrollton, GA; grandchildren, David Baloun and wife Jennifer, Amy McCannon, Chris Standard, Jamie Standard, Adam Toland, Matt Toland, Jim Foster and wife Jennifer, Erin Sumner and husband William, Amanda Manley and husband Jason, Jordan Foster, Joanna Foster and Eric Foster; and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Frances Fields; and grandson; Kyle Foster. Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 14, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Walker United Methodist Church, 2730 Walker Church Road, Greensboro, GA with Rev. Greg Foster and Rev. John Pike officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are his grandsons: David Baloun, Jim Foster, Eric Foster, Chris Standard, Jordan Foster, Matthew Toland, Adam Toland and Jamie Standard. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at McCommons Funeral Home.
