Martha Joan Long Eley

Martha Joan Long Eley of Atlanta, GA, died Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Atlanta Medical Center at the age of 67.  Born in Gainesville, GA on December 6, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Winston Vertis Long and Mildred Reid Long.  She attended Jackson High School.  In March of 1969 she married James Moore “Jimmy” Eley of White Plains, GA and she has lived in Atlanta for the last forty-four years.  For twenty years she worked as a manager for The Home Depot.
She enjoyed shopping, cooking and eating at new places with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Eley, in December of 2013.  Joan is survived by two daughters, Christine Elizabeth Eley Roberts (David) of Lawrenceville, GA and Shannon Michelle Eley Stokes of Lawrenceville, GA; two granddaughters,  Alyson Roberts and Elisabeth Stokes; and a number of other relatives and friends.  

Funeral Services will be held, Monday, July 7, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at McCommons Chapel in Greensboro, GA with Rev. Dr. Norman Waldrip officiating.  Interment will follow at White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery, 1020 Main Street W, White Plains, GA 30678.  The family will receive friends Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service at McCommons Funeral Home.  Serving as pallbearers are David Roberts, Sherman Crawford, and Mitchell Eley.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
