Martha Lunceford Obituary

Martha P. Lunceford, 81, of Anthony Way, Richmond, wife of Rev. Malcolm G. Lunceford, passed away Monday, January 10, 2011 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center of Richmond.

Born on October 1, 1929 in Kite, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Quincy B. and Psyche Tyus Powell. Mrs. Lunceford was a retired teacher with 30 years service and had taught at various schools in Kentucky and Georgia. She received an Outstanding Teacher Award while in Franklin County, Kentucky and was an accomplished vocalist. She was a member of Rosedale Baptist Church in Richmond, Kentucky.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Hutchins.

In addition to her loving husband, Malcolm, she is survived by one daughter, Mona L. Carpenter (Cecil Douglas) of Lexington, Kentucky; one son, Gordon H. Lunceford (Kristi W.) of Richmond; one brother, Charles Powell of Georgia; four grandchildren, David M. Carpenter, Jacob C. Carpenter, Seth G. Hutchins and Malcolm K. Lunceford.

Funeral service for Mrs. Lunceford will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 14, 2011, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, 1110 Barnes Mill Road, Richmond, with Dr. Mike Greer and Rev. Chris Dotson officiating. Visitation will be from 5 a�" 9 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a�" 11 a.m. Friday, prior to the service at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home.

Honorary pallbearers will be David M. Carpenter, Jacob C. Carpenter, Seth G. Hutchins, Malcolm K. Lunceford and Cecil Douglas Carpenter.

Graveside services and burial will be on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in The Greenlawn Cemetery in Union Point, Georgia.
