Marland Leland Larson, 87, of Greensboro, GA, formerly of Tacoma, WA, passed away on August 21, 2010 at St. Joseph Hospital in Greensboro.
He was born on January 6, 1923 in Tacoma, the son of Leonard M. and Mary DeWees Larson. He is survived by his wife Muriel, daughter Marla Rea and husband David of Greensboro GA, grandson Adam Rea and wife Rebecca of Athens GA, sister Verle Congdon and husband Darrell of University Place, WA, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by step grandchildren Jennifer (Rea) and husband Aaron Rea-Smith of Sumner, WA and Nathan and wife Amy Rea of Alpharetta, GA and six great grand children. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings Leonard C. Larson, M. Marcia Ambrose, Ardis Allen, and Delbert Larson.
After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1942, he soon entered the army and served in World War II as a Staff Sergeant in the European theater. Returning to Tacoma, he married Muriel Thompson on August 20, 1948. He completed a degree in Accounting at the University of Puget Sound in 1949 where he was amember of Kappa Sigma fraternity. He joined Weyerhaeuser Company in 1949 working in the Tax Department until his retirement in 1985.
With a large extended family Marland enjoyed many summers at Clear Lake WA with family and friends. In retirement, Marland and Muriel loved to travel, especially visiting small villages all over Europe. They loved to discover new places and for a time lived in Scottsdale, AZ and Sun Valley, ID. In 2003, Marland and Muriel moved to Georgia to be near their daughter and her family. Although suffering a serious fall resulting in partial paralysis, Marland continued to enjoy life, especially the frequent visits from grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A private family service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery where he will be inurned.
