Marjorie Harrison Obituary

Marjorie Nell Harrison, 87, resident of Sunrise Assisted Living in Buckhead, Georgia, died Wednesday, December 10, 2014. She was the seventh and youngest child of the late Clarence Stephens Harrison and Susan Jane Colclough of Crawfordville, Georgia. Her brothers and all but one sister-in-law preceded her in death: Tom and Neola Harrison (Florence, Alabama), Lewis and Selma Harrison (Nashville, Tennessee), Jesse “Heck” Harrison (Crawfordville, Georgia), Stephens Harrison (Crawfordville, Georgia), Robert Harrison (Atlanta, Georgia) and Howard and Louise Harrison (Hartsville, South Carolina). Her nephew William Harrison and niece, Lucibeth Harrison Nesbit, are also deceased. Survivors include her brother Bob’s wife, Elena Wells Harrison (Atlanta, Georgia) and the following nieces and nephews: Carolyn Harrison Bradley, Lewis Harrison, Jr., Howard Harrison, Jr., Stephen Harrison, Celia Harrison Warrenfeltz, Beth Harrison, Cathlean Harrison Coleman, Robanne Harrison and Connie Harrison Phillips. Marge also leaves behind numerous great-nephews and nieces, whom she adored.

Marge was born on July 15, 1927 in Taliaferro County, Georgia. Though she lived and worked most of her life in Atlanta, she always claimed Crawfordville as home and made the drive back as often as possible. At the encouragement of Elena’s father, Fulton County School superintendent, Jere A. Wells, Marge came to Atlanta around 1945 to attend business school.  She lived with Dr. Wells and his wife, Ouida Cox Wells at their residence on Yale Place in Atlanta and, later, with her brother Bob’s family, also at Yale Place, until she moved to Sunrise in 2011.

After attending Draughn's Business School, Marge took a job with the Fulton County Board of Education, working in the payroll department. Soon thereafter, she began her career at Davison’s department store (later R.H. Macy and Company) in downtown Atlanta and worked in the payroll department until her retirement in 1992. She always enjoyed sitting in a rocking chair outside, enjoying the stillness of nature, whether it was on the front porch of the Crawfordville family home overlooking the pecan grove, the back patio of Yale Place near the bird feeders or the wrap-around porch at Sunrise, watching people come and go. She was also enthusiastic about the proposition of any road trip and travelled frequently with her family all over the United States, including Hawaii. She made two trips to Europe and loved visiting her brothers’ families all around the southeast. Marge Harrison will be greatly missed.
