Marjorie Odell Chastain Davenport
Marjorie Odell Chastain Davenport passed away Friday, September 28, 2018 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro, GA. She was 90. Marjorie was born June 24, 1928 in Dawsonville, Georgia. She was the daughter and one of nine children born to the late Benjamin and Eula Densmore Chastain. She married Ernest Donald Davenport and in 1968 they moved to Greensboro, GA. After their sons were grown they returned to Gainesville where they lived until 1999 and then moved back to Greene County. After returning to Greensboro, Marjorie worked in food preparation at Ingles. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Greensboro, GA. She loved cooking and baking and was well known for her red velvet cake. She also enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and car racing, but being with her family was most important, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband of over sixty-five years, Ernest Davenport of Union Point, GA, she is survived by three sons, Kenneth Davenport (Miriam) of White Plains, GA, Gary Davenport (Penny) of Union Point, GA and Darren Davenport (Julie) of Greensboro, GA; siblings, Alton Chastain, Ralph Chastain and Estelle Reece; seven grandchildren: Kenny Davenport (Renee), Joanie Patrick (Cody), Jennifer Hubbard (Scott), April Rhoades, Lindsey Stone (Keith) Natalie Chastain Davenport and Victoria Davenport; and eleven great grandchildren. She was also blessed with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, many friends and other family members. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Wade Crane, Raymond Chastain, Ola Belle Wylie, Anne Hooper and Wynell Lingerfelt.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, September 30, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel, 109 W. Broad Street, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Bruce Lovin officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until time for the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Greenview Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642. Serving as pallbearers are Cecil Powell, Robbie Chapman, Jeffery Smith, Niles Webb, Ken Cawthon, Shane Chastain and Lloyd Crane. Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Boswell and Richard Dingler.
