Mae Frances Moore “Monk” Johnson of Oxford, GA, formerly of Greensboro, died at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at the age of 86. Born in Greene County on January 22, 1927, she was the daughter of the late George Frank Moore and Berta Wright Moore. She attended school at Meadowcrest in Greensboro. For many years she worked as a nurses aid at Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Walker United Methodist Church. Monk, as she was lovingly known by her family and friends, was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed watching the Braves games, cleaning, growing flowers and gardening.
In addition to her parents, George and Berta Moore and her stepmother, Claudia Moore, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Milton “Milt” Johnson on April 24, 1999; and son-in-law, Vernon Batson. Mrs. Johnson is survived by two daughters, Barbara Johnson Batson of Oxford, GA and Jane Johnson Satterfield and husband Johnnie of Greensboro, GA; a sister, Ethel Mullins of Jackson, GA; a brother, Frank “Bo” Moore (Marilyn) of Evans, GA; seven grandchildren, Alan Satterfield (Elizabeth) of Watkinsville, GA, Alison Goss (Billy) of Greensboro, GA, John Satterfield (Susan) of Greensboro, GA; Jennifer Sorrow (Kevin), Wade Batson (Jill), Aaron Batson (Leigh) and Carl Batson (Sherry) all of Oxford, GA; twelve great grandchildren, Aley Batson, Blake Batson, Claire Batson, Garrett Sorrow, Mason Sorrow, McKenna Sorrow, Samantha Batson, Mackenzie Satterfield, William Goss, Evan Satterfield, Sidney Satterfield and Hailey Satterfield; a number of other relatives and many friends.
Graveside services will be held, Friday, September 6, 2013 at 11:00 a. m. at the Greenview Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA with Rev. John Pike and Rev. Dr. James Choomack officiating. The family will receive friends 10:00 a.m. until time for the service on Friday at McCommons Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers are Alan Satterfield, John Satterfield, Billy Goss, Kevin Sorrow, Wade Batson, Aaron Batson and Carl Batson.
