Mabel Leach Obituary

Mabel Eaton Leach, age 93, of Greensboro, GA, died Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Boswell Parker Health and Rehabilitation in Greensboro. She was born on March 20, 1918 in Fairmount, GA to the late James Heard Eaton and Jessie Dodd Eaton. Mabel graduated from Sparta High School, and married Robert Lewis Leach on July 4, 1941. She was a homemaker for a number of years before going to work for the Sparta Garment Company. Mabel also worked for Crouse Brothers, and Lena Hy Garment Company. She retired in December of 1983. Mabel was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and helped with Bible School. She loved reading, canning, quilting and camping.

Survivors include a daughter, Eloise Hopkins and husband Roger of Union Point, GA; a son, Thomas L. "Tom" Leach and wife Annette of Greensboro, GA; three grandchildren, Julie L. Etheridge and husband Phillip of Eatonton, GA, Heather L. Moon and husband Eugene of Greensboro, GA and Chris Leach and wife Stephanie of Greensboro, GA; six great grandchildren, Cassie Etheridge, Sarah Leach, Ben Leach, Stephanie Ann Hopkins, Cord Hopkins and Adam Hopkins; a great, great grandchild, Abigail Gardner; a sister, Elizabeth Eaton Moore of Greensboro, GA; two sisters-in-law, Coleen Eaton of Savannah, GA and Leora Leach of Greensboro, GA and a number of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Robert Lewis Leach in July of 2004; a daughter, Judith L. "Judy" Leach in July of 2002; a grandson, Robbie Hopkins; and five brothers, Fain Eaton, Charles W. Eaton, Jack Eaton, Harold Eaton and Horace Eaton.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 9, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Edward A. Swehla officiating. Interment will follow at Greenview Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642. Serving as pallbearers are Richard Dingler, Phillip Etheridge, Adam Hopkins, Cord Hopkins, Chris Leach, and Eugene Moon. The family requests that any memorials be made to Liberty United Methodist Church, c/o Ann Smith, 2491 Shiloh Road, Greensboro, GA 30642 or American Cancer Society, 1684 Barnett Shoals Road, Athens, GA 30605. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until time for the service at the funeral home. The family very much appreciated the care Mrs. Mabel received from Boswell Parker.
