Ludie Mae Matthews

Ludie Mae Matthews, age 86, of Greensboro, Georgia, died on Sunday, September 3, 2006 at her son''s residence surrounded by her loving family. Daughter of the late Daniel Hugh Matthews and Girlie Hawley Matthews, she was born on November 10, 1919, in Sampson County, North Carolina. Mrs. Matthews graduated from Central High School in Wade, NC. She was an employee at A&P Food Stores and a member of Oak Island Baptist Church in North Carolina.

She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Clark and husband James P. Clark of Irmo, SC and Catherine Burwell of Bolivia, NC; two sons, Richard Matthews and wife Kathleen Matthews of Greensboro, GA and H. Dwan Matthews and wife Lynn H. Matthews of Southport, NC; a brother, Daniel Matthews and wife Olivia Matthews of Oak Island, NC; six grandchildren, Traci Lynne Penrod, Kimberly Ann Stevens, Molly Stephenson, Clayton Matthew Burwell, Francis Basil Burwell, and Brandon Dwan Matthews; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Royal Rudolph Matthews; two brothers, Ulysses Matthews and Seba McQueen Matthews; and two grandchildren, Catherine Annette Clark and Bryan Mitchell Clark.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Carter officiating. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park in Burlington, NC. Serving as pallbearers are Brandon Matthews, Bo Burwell, Clayton Burwell, James P. Clark, Donnie Lizotte, Jack Penrod and Rick Stevens.
