Louise Hart McGarity, age 88, of Siloam, Georgia, died Saturday, August 16, 2003 in Oglethorpe County while attending a McGarity family reunion at the home of her dear nephew, Turner McGarity and wife Flora. She was born December 26, 1914 in Franklin County to the late Robert Lester Hart and Pamela Ann Sisk Hart and attended Vanna School in Hart County. She loved her church, her family and her extended family. As a homemaker her favorite pastimes were rocking on the front porch, traveling through pictures and going camping with her husband Carl. They truly shared the best of life together with their children and beloved son-in-law. After her husband died she continued to live at home close to her daughter, but for the last year had made her home at Greene Point Health Care Center enjoying the activities and sitting on the porch with her new family. She was a member of Siloam United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and served on several church committees over the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Milton McGarity, in December of 2001. Survivors include a daughter, Shirley M. Channell and husband Don of Siloam, GA; a son, Patrick McGarity of Athens, GA; special camping buddies, Cody Coker and Nancy Ellenberg Woods; and many other special friends and relatives. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lola Lord and Mary Westbrook; and four brothers, Lester Hart, Jack Hart, Thurmon Hart and J.P. Hart.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Siloam United Methodist Church with Rev. Les Cowart officiating. Interment will follow at Siloam Cemetery.
