Loretta Strickland Simons

Loretta Strickland Simons, of Greensboro, GA, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2013, at the age of 78 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro, GA.  Loretta was born in the Liberty Community of Greene County.  She was the daughter of the late Talmadge and Lura Gentry Strickland. She graduated from Greensboro High School in 1953 and married William Ralph Simons of Crawfordville, GA. Most of her working career was spent at Lena Hy Garment Company and Rite Aid Pharmacy.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro.  Known to many as "Nana" or "Miss Loretta," she always had a kind word for everyone.  More than anything, Loretta loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She enjoyed cooking, being with her friends, working crossword puzzles and putting puzzles together.

In addition to her husband of nearly sixty-one years, William Ralph Simons of Greensboro, GA, she is survived by three daughters, Teresa Kelly and husband Sidney of Greensboro, GA; Janice Roper of Greensboro, GA and Tammy Underwood of Greensboro, GA; two brothers, Gentry Strickland and wife Frances of Greensboro, GA and Roy Strickland of Gray, GA; five grandchildren, Pete O’Neal and wife Kristy of Greensboro, GA, Win O’Neal of Greensboro, GA, Trey Underwood and wife Brittany of Greensboro, GA, Tanner Underwood of Union Point, GA and Tal Underwood of Union Point, GA; four great-grandchildren, Samantha O’Neal, Ike O’Neal, Johnson O’Neal and Lane Underwood; and a number of other relatives and many friends.  She was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Credille.

Graveside Services will be held Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Liberty United Methodist Church Cemetery, 3091 Liberty Church Road, White Plains, GA 30678 with Rev. Tom Compton officiating.  Serving as pallbearers are Chris Adams, Mason Adams, Jim Strickland, Bill Strickland, Trent Dauler and Tyler Dauler.  The family will receive friends Saturday from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Liberty United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.  The family requests that any memorials be made to Nathanael Greene Academy, P.
