Lois Gloria Forrester Overton
November 12, 1925 – December 31, 2017

Lois Gloria Forrester Overton, age 92, of Pelham, Alabama, died Sunday, December 31, 2017 at her residence. Born on November 12, 1925 in Tampa, Florida, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Russell Forrester, Sr. and Catherine Inez White Forrester. Gloria Overton was a graduate of Girls High School in Atlanta, Georgia. She married Macon Caldwell Overton, Sr. on October 23, 1942. She taught preschool at Oak Park Baptist Church in New Orleans, Louisiana and Dunwoody Baptist Church in Dunwoody, Georgia where she retired in 2000. She was a member of Dunwoody Baptist Church. 

Throughout her career, Mrs. Overton touched the lives of hundreds of children and their families. She was the ultimate friend, counselor, mentor and shoulder to lean on for many over the years. People were drawn to her sweet smile and compassionate voice.

She is survived by her six children: Macon C. Overton, Jr. of Chattanooga, TN; Russell G. Overton and wife Sandy of Naples, FL; Elizabeth O. Ferguson and husband Doug of Pelham, AL; Forest S. Overton and wife Suzanne of Woodstock, GA; Rebecca A. Overton of Canton, GA; and Thomas M. Overton of Dunwoody, GA; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; and brothers, Richard Forrester (Cellie) and Charles Forrester (Myra). Mrs. Overton was preceded in death by her husband, Macon Caldwell Overton, Sr. in July of 2009, and brother, Jesse Russell Forrester, Jr. 

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the McCommons Chapel with Matthew Douglas Ferguson, Mrs. Overton's grandson, and Dr. Allen Jackson officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Union Point, GA. Before the funeral services commence, the family will receive relatives and friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons: Tyler Overton, James Coile, Michael Ferguson, Shaun Phelps, Dillon Overton, Greg McKinney and nephews Bill Overton and Vernon Mobley.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
