Lester Ray “Bubba” Merritt, 61, of Greensboro, GA died Friday, December 13, 2002 at Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital. Born September 13, 1941 in Greene County, he was the son of the late Gordon Lenward Merritt and Mrs. Maizell Powell Merritt of Greensboro. A lifelong resident of Greene County, he attended Meadowcrest School and was of the Methodist faith. He worked as a skidder operator for Kenneth Moore Logging Co. in Greensboro for 15 years and Hood Brothers Logging Co. in Eatonton for 12 years, retiring in March of 2002.
He is survived by his wife Dianne Merritt of Greensboro, GA; two daughters, April Lynn Merritt of Union Point, GA and Linda Gail Merritt of Greensboro, GA; a son, Lester Ray Merritt Jr. of Greensboro, GA; mother, Maizell Powell Merritt of Greensboro, GA; a sister, Hilda M. Jackson and husband Butch of Siloam, GA; a brother, Terry Merritt and wife Donna of Greensboro, GA, a grandchild, Dominique Christian Merritt; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, December 16, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Wayne Usry officiating. Interment will follow at Walker United Methodist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Dusty Merritt, Tracey Merritt, Marty Dyess, Mark Pinder, James Pinder and Bill Rutledge. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday night at the Funeral Home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W. Broad St., Greensboro, GA, (706) 453-2626, is in charge of arrangements.
