Larry Conger “Bass” Thackston, age 67, of Conyers, GA died Saturday, November 8, 2003 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center of Atlanta. He was born in Fulton County on July 10, 1936 to Bessie Lee Conger Thackston and the late Roy Lee Thackston, Jr. In 1955 he graduated from Okeef High School in Atlanta. He entered the Army in February of 1959 and served in Germany. He was an insurance salesman and was a member of West End Baptist Church in Greensboro. One of his favorite pastimes was fishing.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Thackston in January of 2000. In addition to his mother, he is survived by two daughters, Candace T. Lawson and husband Eddie of Union Point, GA and Kelly D. Thackston of Augusta, GA; two sons, Zack Thackston and wife Pam of Lincolnville, ME and Matt Thackston and wife Renee of Greensboro, GA; and four grandchildren, Chaz Lawson, Brad Thackston, Hannah Thackston and Julia Thackston.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, November 13, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Wayne Usry officiating. The family requests that any memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, Three Corporate Square, Suite 120, Atlanta, GA 30329. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until time for the service Thursday at the funeral home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
