Larry Smith Obituary

Larry D. Smith, 58, of Union Point, Georgia died Wednesday, June 5, 2002. A lifelong resident of Greene County, Mr. Smith was born October 6, 1943 to Elsie King Smith and the late Grover Linton Smith. He was a 1964 graduate of Union Point High School and a member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Union Point. He was a shipping clerk at Chipman Union.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Nancy Dover Smith; a son, Matthew Smith and wife Robin of Union Point, GA; a daughter, Laurie S. Leach and husband Brian of Veazey, GA; two sisters, Dorothy S. Rhodes and husband Ray of Crawfordville, GA, Mary S. Ferguson of Athens, GA; four brothers, Mike Smith and wife Kay of Union Point, GA, Tony Smith and wife Christine of Winder, GA, Billy Smith and wife Jackie of Covington, GA, Ronald Smith and wife Sheila of Union Point, GA; six grandchildren, Ashley Harris, Cody Leach, Erica Yearwood, Brandon Smith, Melissa Smith and Justin Smith. He was preceded in death by a brother Jimmy Smith.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 7, 2002 at 2:00 p.m.at Bethesda Baptist Church in Union Point, Georgia with Rev. Jim Olds, Rev. Clayton Sanders and Rev. Ray Rhodes, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Bethesda Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers are Andrew Rhodes, Brian Smith, Chuck Smith, Timmothy Sanders, Bill Dover, Mark Smith and Brad Dover. The family requests that memorials be made to Bethesda Baptist Church building Fund, Bethesda Church Road, Union Point, GA 30669. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W. Broad St., Greensboro, GA, (706) 453-2626, is in charge of arrangements.
