Kelsie Sumpter Drane

Kelsie Sumpter “Tess” Drane, age 89, of Longwood, Florida joined her dearly loved family in heaven for a wonderful Thanksgiving reunion on November 27th. She was the daughter of Jesse E. Sumpter and Rillie Dawkins Sumpter of Crawfordville, Georgia. She was married for 63 years to Angus Henry Drane who proceeded her in death in 2002. Henry Drane was raised in Union Point and the couple were residents of the town in the early years of their marriage. They also lived in Macon, Jacksonville, Florida and Orange Park, Florida. They retired to Ocala, Florida and eventually to Longwood, Florida to be near their only child, daughter Peni Yarbrough. Kelsie maintained her Georgia accent all of her life which enthralled her Florida friends. She worked for a total of seventeen years in civil service in both Georgia and Florida. She was a devoted Christian who enjoyed throughout her life, membership and service in a variety of Methodist Churches. Kelsie loved politics and she read and watched political news shows daily. She also loved all sports especially basketball and football. Besides her daughter Peni, Kelsie is survived by a grandson, Chan; granddaughter and son-in-law, Amanda and John Daw; and two great grandsons, Christopher Yarbrough and Jacob Daw. She also has a number of surviving nieces, nephews and cousins in Georgia and Florida and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bud and Patsy Haynes of Alabama and Union Point. There will be a Graveside Service at Greenlawn Cemetery in Union Point, Georgia, on Monday, December 1st at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Bert Mathews officiating and a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 3rd at Bear Lake Methodist Church in Apopka, Florida.
