Katherine Snipes Payne

Katherine Snipes Payne, 77, of Greensboro, GA, died Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Saint Joseph''s At East Georgia Hospital in Greensboro. She was born October 25, 1932 in Monroe, Georgia to the late Jutson Roselle Snipes and Alma Mae Tuggle Snipes. Her family moved to Greensboro when Katherine was in the eighth grade and she graduated from Greensboro High School. She worked in production in the breaker department at Westinghouse in Athens and later as a seamstress at Stewart Apparel in Greensboro. She was a member of West End Baptist Church. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed being with her family, growing flowers and sewing.

She is survived by her husband of sixty years, Clarence Bennett Payne of Greensboro, GA; two daughters, Connie Callaway and husband Jerry of Greensboro, GA and LuAnn Stapp and husband Morgan of Lake Oconee; a sister, Hazel Bryan and husband Robert of Monroe, GA; three grandchildren, Bobby Clark, Allison Clark and Julie Callaway; a great grandchild, Susan Brown; and a number of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Faye Roberts, Ray Snipes and Billy Snipes.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at McCommons Chapel in Greensboro with Rev. Robert Robinson officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Westlawn Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Georgia Highway 11 North, Monroe, GA 30656. Serving as pallbearers are Mark Payne, Tim Payne, Robbie Bryan, Heath Hartwell, David Snipes, Mike Snipes and Jeff Snipes.
