June Havener Volpe, 77, died Sunday, February 25, 2007 at her residence in Eatonton, Georgia after a courageous battle with emphysema. Born in 1929 to the late Claude Havener and Gladys Escher Havener, June grew up and lived most of her working life in New York. She went to Saint Barnabas High School in Yonkers and married Gerald Volpe in 1946. She was a capable homemaker, devoted mother, and loving grandmother. June enjoyed cooking traditional Italian and German cuisine for her family, and was also an avid classic movie buff. She had lived in Eatonton for the last five years.
June is survived by her spouse, Gerald Volpe of Rochester Hills, Michigan; a son, Gerald Volpe, Jr. of Yorktown Heights, NY; daughter, Claudia Murawski and husband Al of Greensboro, GA; four grandchildren, Michelle Ciavola of Greensboro, GA, Melissa Smith of Athens, GA, Gerald Volpe III of Peekskill, NY and Maria Volpe of Yorktown Heights, NY; three great grandchildren, Katherine Ciavola, Cooper Ciavola and Abigail Smith; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by four siblings, John Havener, Mason Havener, Claude Havener and Gladys H. Fodor.
Inurnment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Hastings, New York. The family requests that any memorials be made to the American Lung Association, 61 Broadway, New York, NY 10006.
