MACON, GA- Julius Carlton Johnson, Jr. 89, went to be with his heavenly Father on Sunday, July 21. The memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church 582 Walnut St. Macon, Georgia on Thursday, July 25th at 11:00 AM . The Reverend Harriet Simmons and Reverend David Probst will officiate.

He was born in Greensville, S.C. July 16th, 1924. The same year the family moved to Augusta, Ga. where he attended church at the " first Christian Church of Augusta and was baptized in 1933. In 1935 the family moved to St. Simons Island where Julius attended Frederica Christ Church, served as an acolyte and choir boy and was confirmed there in 1937. He graduated from Glynn Academy in Brunswick, Ga. in 1942 and was drafted into the United States Army March 9th, 1943 World War II. He was stationed at the, " Prisoner of War Camp", in Aliceville, Alabama and worked in the administrative section. He was promoted to sergeant, serving over three years and received the American Service Metal, " World War II Victory" for his good conduct and "rifle Marksmen" training. Mr. Johnson moved to Macon, Ga. upon being honorably discharged from the Army and attended college at Mercer University. Where he ran track for the college and was nick- named "Scooter", in 1951 he received a 4 year "Bachelor of Arts" degree and the prestigious "Blue Key Award". Upon graduation he was employed with Equifax for 31 years and retired in 1986. He was a member of the Moose Lodge over 50 years, during that time, holding many offices and received many awards, member of the American Legion, post #3 and a former member of the Veterans of Foreign War. He also did volunteer work through Macon Outreach after he retired, his favorite hobbies were cooking and traveling .

He was preceded in death by his father, Julius Johnson, Sr.; his mother, Murice Johnson; and his brother, Noel Johnson. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Jackie Roquemore Johnson and his four children: sons, Mark Johnson of S.C. and David Johnson of Atlanta, Ga.; daughters, Lee Johnson of Macon, Georgia and Peggy Johnson of Oklahoma; and three step-children; Del Roquemore Sr. of Buckhead, Ga., Judy Thurston of Savannah, Ga. and Deborah Payton of Macon, Ga. Scooter loved his children very much and was very proud of all their accomplishments. He was affectionately known as "PaPa" by his 7 grandchildren, Anna Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson, Cory Johnson, Ray Payton, Christy Owen, Keith Dykes and William Roquemore III; one predeceased grandchild, Della Roquemore; and 8 great-grandchildren. He will be truly missed by them.

Visitation with the family will be at Christ Episcopal Church from 10:00AM until services begin at 11AM.
