Judith Elizabeth Lantery "Judy" Bronkhorst died at her residence on November 24, 2009, at the age of 67. Born in Weymouth, Massachusetts on August 25, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Frank Benjamin Lantery and Ruth Elizabeth Smith Lantery. Judy graduated from Braintree High School in Massachusetts and the New England School of Art in Boston in 1962, where she studied advertising and illustration. On June 3, 1962, she married Edward Joseph Bronkhorst, Jr. and moved to Phoenix, AZ for two years. Then they moved back to Weymouth, Massachusetts for Ed to go to school for two years. Ed worked for Northeast Airlines in Boston which was bought by Delta and in 1972 they moved to Georgia. For twenty-five years they lived in Griffin where Judy owned and operated Griffin Arts and Crafts Retail Store and also taught painting classes. She was a member of Lake Oconee Lutheran Church.
Since retiring to Lake Oconee in 1996, she has worked for Natures Outpost, Hallmans and most recently Genuine Georgia. The beautiful lake has inspired her paintings of wildlife and beautiful sunrises and sunsets. She painted in all mediums including watercolor and pen and ink. Judy has illustrated and published several books and her paintings are held in many private collections locally and around the world. She was a member of the Greensboro Art Alliance and other noted guilds. Her art has been displayed in several local galleries including Genuine Georgia in downtown Greensboro.
Judy is survived by her husband of 47 years, Edward Joseph Bronkhorst, Jr. of Eatonton, GA; three sons, Edward Joseph Bronkhorst III of Millner, GA, David Aaron Bronkhorst and wife Kris of Fayetteville, GA and Andrew Scott Bronkhorst and wife Kellie of Woodstock, GA; a brother, Frank Lantery of Chelmsford, MA; and four grandchildren, Nicklas Bronkhorst, Gavin Bronkhorst, Cameron Bronkhorst and Dylan Bronkhorst. Judy also leaves behind many friends both in Massachusetts as well as in Georgia.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Lake Oconee Lutheran Church with Pastor Ron Schornhorst officiating. The family will receive family and friends from 12 noon until time for the service at Lake Oconee Lutheran Church, 1089 Lake Oconee Parkway, Eatonton, GA 31024.
