Jude Joseph Lyons

Jude Joseph Lyons, 60, of Greensboro, GA, died Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at St. Mary''s Hospice House in Bogart, GA. He was born in Dunkirk, NY on June 26, 1952 to Madeline Kozlowski Lyons of Warren, PA and the late Daniel Walter Lyons. He was a 1970 graduate of Warren Area High School in Warren, PA and attended Canisius College. He married Elizabeth Anne Channing on June 8, 1974. They lived in Warren, PA where he was a member of the Elks Club; a volunteer fireman in Sugar Grove, PA and an EMT. Jude was a member of The Catholic Center of the University of Georgia. During his working career, he worked for six years at Inter Electric Corporation and later was the owner and operator of Lyons Builders. After moving to Greene County in the summer of 1990, he was the Construction Supervisor for Reynolds Plantation. He had many hobbies and interests, but really enjoyed working on Mopar, Chrysler and Dodge. He also enjoyed reading, theology and religion and especially loved his grandchildren.

In addition to his mother, Madeline Kozlowski Lyons of Warren, PA, he is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Anne Channing "Beth" Lyons of Greensboro, GA; two daughters, Jennifer Hadden and husband John and their children, Jack and Madeline Hadden of Watkinsville, GA and Gretchen Pearson and husband Anthony, II and their son, William Pearson of Athens, GA; a niece, Gwendolyn Albaugh Lanstrum of Chardon, OH; a number of other relatives; and many friends. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Anne Mary Lyons Albaugh.

His battle with cancer was long but he fought it bravely. His determination and will to win the battle was an enormous strength for all who knew and loved him. Jude did not allow cancer to stand in the way of his reaching out to those around him. He never met a stranger and continued giving of himself and providing help to those who needed him.

A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Catholic Center of the University of Georgia, 1344 Lumpkin Street, Athens, GA 30605 with Father David Hyman officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Horace Park, Kevin Nichols, Neil Johnston, Lee McDonald, Brian Channing and Scott Pope. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Durham, Dr. Bobby Durham, Carey Williams, Guy Kay, Dr. Jeffrey Zweig, John Borger and Mark Higdon. The family will receive friends Friday night from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m at McCommons Funeral Home in Greensboro.
