Juanita Nell (Drinkard) Yearwood

Juanita “Nita” Nell Drinkard Yearwood of Union Point, GA, died on Thursday, March 10, 2016, at the age of 86.

Nita – or “Nana” as her grandchildren called her – was born in Wilkes County on December 6, 1929, the daughter of the late Walter David Drinkard and Mildred Virginia Pate Drinkard.  She graduated from Alexander Stephens Institute in 1946 as the class Valedictorian.  That same year, she married James Allison Yearwood and began building her family.
 
From her time as a Sunday School teacher at Union Point First United Methodist Church to her career as the office manager for Dr. William H. Rhodes, Jr., in Union Point, she cared for generations of residents from Greene and surrounding counties. Nana always enjoyed her quiet time, which she spent reading, working crossword puzzles, and listening to some of her favorite music. However, nothing could make her glow like visits from her children, grandchildren and – in recent years – great grandchildren.
 
She is survived by a daughter, Mildred Allison “Millie” Yearwood Smith, and husband, Pete, of Thomson, GA, son, Darryl Yearwood, of Watkinsville, GA; sister, Sarah Lord, of Madison, GA; three brothers, Howard Pate Drinkard, of Byron, GA, Lawrence Warren Drinkard, of Macon, GA, and Martin Neal Drinkard, of Eatonton, GA; grandchildren, Jason Beasley Smith (Miriam) and Allison Megan Smith Cobb (Aaron); great grandchildren, Baylor Smith Cobb and Windsor Marie Smith; life-long friend, John Q. Walker, as well as many other relatives and friends.
 
In addition to her husband, James Allison “Boww” Yearwood, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Helen Drinkard Dingler, Walter Thomas Drinkard and Charles Davis Drinkard.
 
The family will receive friends Saturday, March 12, 2016, from 1:00 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Callaway Funeral Home, 208 N. Rhodes Street, Union Point, GA 30669.  
 
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 12, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. at the Callaway Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Mark Yearwood officiating.  Graveside services will follow at Raytown United Methodist Church Cemetery, 5011 Lower Mill Road NE, Crawfordville, GA 30631.
 
Serving as pallbearers are David Barnhart, Tony Barnhart, Bruce Yearwood, David Yearwood, Ronnie Yearwood and Cale Yearwood.  Honorary pallbearers are Terry Brown, Robert Lee McWhorter, Henry McWhorter, Tommy Dingler, Johnny Yearwood, Art Dingler and Lowell Harrison.
